Lee

Former caterer, Lee, is a shining example of how someone facing an uncertain future can transform their lives into something great when given the opportunity and the right amount of support.

Self-referred Lee came to the Preston Recycling Lives centre in November 2009, with a more harrowing tale than most.

After a stressful career in catering which lasted for a number of years, Lee suffered a mental breakdown. As he struggled to come to terms with his difficulties, and find help with his breakdown, Lee began to drink. Soon, he was relying on alcohol to take his mind off his troubles – it became a permanent crutch to lean on.

Vowing to get his life back on track, Lee entered a residential alcohol rehabilitation programme. After just six months, Lee had won the first battle in his crusade to getting his life back on track. Knowing that he needed help in getting back to the world of work, he turned to Recycling Lives for guidance and support.

Lee said: “Recycling Lives offered me the opportunity to learn new skills and re-train with the possibility of a full-time job and secure housing at the end.  I was able to develop at a pace that suited me and support was always on hand.”

After just six months, Lee was offered full time employment as the Team Leader on the Recycling Lives BulkyWaste Service. Lee not only built on the opportunities that he had been offered, he also proved that he had what it takes to lead others to success.

Lee said: “Thanks to Recycling Lives I have a full time job and a home I can call my own. I have a genuine appreciation for the help and support the charity team gave to me whilst I was a Resident. Getting this job and flat have been a positive end to an otherwise very difficult year.”
