Noel

Noel

As the oldest Recycling Lives Resident to date, Noel proves the programme can successfully help both the young and old to change their lives for the better.

A shot blaster with more than 20 years experience, Noel was hit hard when he was made redundant back in August 2009. At the age of 60, the prospect of finding a new job and the possibility of having to learn new skills left Noel feeling vulnerable and lacking in confidence.

After struggling to find work with no success, Noel was referred to Recycling Lives by the Preston Employment Partnership (PEP) in partnership with the Jobcentre in October 2009.

Noel managed to achieve the goals on his Personal Development Plan quickly. He was offered a full-time, permanent position on the Recycling Line CRT line, dismantling TV screens and sorting the various components after just six months.

He said: “The big problem for me was finding an employer that could look past my age. I was ready to work hard and prove myself when the opportunity of coming to Recycling Lives was presented.

“The whole Recycling Lives experience has been really positive, and perfect for me. I have been able to find full time employment that I am really enjoying and I received help finding a flat of my own.”

Recycling Lives put Noel in contact with social landlord Places for People and soon he had a flat to call his own. And, because the Recycling Lives team doesn’t just stop caring once Residents leave, the company’s operations and training manager, Neil Flanagan, even helped Noel to transport his belongings to his new home.

Best thing about Recycling Lives:

Noel said, “For me the best part of Recycling Lives is everything. I am really pleased to be back in employment.”
