Long-serving trustee taking retirement from Recycling Lives Charity
July 2025
We have bid a fond farewell to one of our long-serving trustees who has retired from his role.
Rev Canon Brian Mayne had been part of our team since 2017, bringing expertise and compassion to the management and administration of our Charity.
We first met him through our prisons work, when he was the regional chaplain for all North West prisons. With his care for others and understanding of prison environments, he was a natural fit for our team.
Jonathan Taylor, chairman of trustees for our Charity, said: “Brian has been an asset to our Charity for many years. As a prison chaplain, he understood our mission and aims well. Bringing someone on board with a background in pastoral care strengthened our trustee team at the time and he’s continued to add value ever since. It’s been a pleasure to work alongside him and we are all grateful for the time, insights and warmth he’s brought to our Charity.”
Rev Mayne said of his time as a trustee: “As a prison chaplain, I was aware of the fantastic work that Recycling Lives did within custodial settings. When the opportunity to become a trustee arose, it was a no brainer and also an exciting prospect.
“From those early days it has been fantastic to see the organisation grow, prosper and achieve even greater things.
“Our annual impact reports show just how vital the charity is in supporting an ever increasing number of folk. There are many more who could benefit from our work though, as we focus on individual progress to end, for our participants, the vicious cycle of repeat offending often caused by factors external to them.
“My hopes for the Charity moving forward are that it receives greater recognition at government level of its tried and tested route out of reoffending, and also that it is able to secure funding increases to enable its expansion.”
Rev Mayne will continue to act as an ambassador for our Charity in the community and offer his expert advice on prison pastoral matters, where needed.
Recycling Lives Charity & Social Enterprise is overseen by a board of five independent, unpaid trustees including local business leaders with backgrounds in law, finance and prison operations.
