Employer set to extend opportunities to more ex-offenders

July 2024

A growing business is already planning to extend its ex-offender employment programme.

JN Civils has partnered with our rehabilitation programmes to offer training, work placements and paid work to ex-offenders.

An initial placement, for a participant of our residential programme, proved so successful that JN Civils’ teams are now exploring other avenues to work together, including seeking to offer ROTL work placements to men on ‘day release’ from prison.

Head of Rehabilitation Programmes, Rob Thackray, said: “The team at JN Civils have been really open to our work and offering right from the off. It’s been great to show them what we do and see them share in our enthusiasm for helping people to change their lives for the better.

“The first work placement has been really positive for the gentleman involved and it’s great that he can now pave the way for more opportunities for others.

“This partnership will benefit JN Civils too, equipping them with loyal team members who are keen to learn and progress, and a tangible way to demonstrate their values and social responsibility commitments.”

The first placement saw a Charity resident complete an eight-week placement in JN Civils’ Main Stores in its Preston depot, offering valuable real-world work experience and personal development. He is now continuing through the Stages of our residential programme’s structured support.

Joel Cossins, CEO of JN Civils, said: “We are thrilled to contribute to Recycling Lives Charity’s mission of empowering and inspiring ex-offenders to discover a purpose that brings positive change to their lives. By providing opportunities at JN Civils, we believe we can truly impact people’s lives, guiding them towards better choices for a purposeful and stable future.”

JN Civils offer a broad range of services in the gas, water, electric, and telecoms sectors. Their design and construction solutions are tailored to meet the unique requirements of the communities they serve, by providing bespoke solutions for their customers. With a growing footprint, they are keen to offer more opportunities to participants of our rehabilitation programmes.
