Bill – Volunteer
“Knowing I’m helping people is what keeps me coming in.
“I started volunteering six months after retiring – I’d worked in management for housing associations so was aware of the type of work going on here.
“It’s nice to get out the house and feel useful. The social side of it is good – you get as much out of it as you put in.
“I work in an admin role, overseeing the allocation of goods to our members – ensuring their wants, needs and dietary requirements are met.
“I took a ‘year out’ though, to go and volunteer with the NHS through the pandemic. I was helping at Royal Blackburn Hospital. We set up a system for patients belongings, getting personal items in to patients whose families weren’t able to visit them.
“I was always planning to come back here though. I like the variety in the days and the diverse team.
“I’m glad I can continue to help others in some way. Volunteering makes you feel good.”
