Jean – Volunteer

“It’s interesting to work with food in a different way.

“I had a food business of my own before I started volunteering and I did a lot with charities then.

“I heard about FareShare getting food to people who need it and knew it benefitted people in my area, so I applied and I’ve been volunteering since 2019.

“It’s nice to meet the people taking the food; taking it to schools or making meals for the homeless.

“Knowing that I am helping people is the best bit. I’ve made a lot of friends too. Everyone’s so friendly.

“It’s nice to see [other volunteers] progress too; to see them come out of their shell. I love it here.”

Jean was named Warehouse Assistant of the Year in FareShare’s annual volunteer awards, after being nominated by the Food Redistribution Centre’s Operations Coordinator, Shaun.

“I couldn’t believe it about the award and I was really happy to know Shaun had put me in for it. It’s nice to get that recognition.”
