Rehabilitation sponsorship extended for second year

February 2022

A sponsor partnership for our rehabilitation work has been extended after a successful first year.

VINCI Facilities and Building Solutions have extended their sponsorship of a role within our rehabilitation team, funding the salary of a Housing & Employability Coordinator for a second year.

VINCI’s significant donation helps to sustain our work giving personalised support to prisoners pre- and post-release.

In the first year of the sponsorship, the Housing & Employability Coordinator post covered supported 47 individuals, 24 of whom have since been released. Of those, 16 have gone on to secure employment with our support, while eight are receiving additional support while seeking jobs.

Chief Executive, Alasdair Jackson, said: “We’re really pleased VINCI have extended their sponsorship.
“The post they support is vital in supporting people to resettle on release and start to achieve their goals. They mentor people with everything from work skills to securing ID to rebuilding family relationships.
“The overall impact of our work is in reducing reoffending rates to less than 5% – compared to around two-thirds of offenders reoffending nationally. That success is made up of hundreds of men and women enjoying happier, more stable lifestyles, contributing to their communities.”

Our rehabilitation programme supports men and women in prison and on release to reduce reoffending rates. Working in 15 prisons we support hundreds of people to improve their skills, confidence and resilience ready to secure work, stable housing and happy, fulfilled lifestyles.

Our Housing & Employability Coordinators support participants through-the-gate, helping them to prepare for release and resettle. Their support includes guiding and mentoring participants, liaising with potential employers and accommodation providers, and providing advocacy for statutory and support services.

Garry McInerney, Operations Director for VINCI, added: “Supporting Recycling Lives Charity means so much for our commitment to social value.
“As a large employer we believe in offering opportunities to those in need of a second chance in life. Ex-offenders can go on to become exceptionally loyal and dependable and we are constantly exploring ways to achieve maximum impact and outcomes for those who prove themselves worthy.
“Sponsoring the Charity gives the best outcomes in terms of those on ROTL and leaving the system and also those in need of accommodation and greater education. We are pleased to have signed a further sponsorship for 2022.”
